Mike Soper
Growing up in Worcestershire, UK, surrounded by nature, I developed a talent for photography; to capture the world I loved, and design; to help preserve it for future generations. This desire, combined with my creativity and problem-solving skills, inspired me to pursue a career in product design, aiming to reduce the industry's environmental impact.
In Bristol I worked for five years across a variety of design industries, ranging from street furniture to medical simulation. During this time I learned the crucial role effective communication plays in our daily experiences, and how complex people are. Understanding people, their needs, and managing the balance between expectations and limitations was a fantastic learning experience and became a core value in my design philosophy.
After succeeding in design for this time, I then took time to travel and explore the world, picking up my camera, and learning new skills and mindsets while working as a ski instructor, meeting people from every walk of life from all across the globe. Using this time to hone not only my photography skills, but, more importantly, my communication skills and my adaptability, taking the principles of user centred design and adapting it to my daily role, working across cultural barriers, and delivering the best possible experiences with any client.
I now bring back those experiences to the world of design, with renewed drive, to produce well communicated, effective, and considered design projects that hold users, stakeholders, and circular design principles at the core of the decision making process.
